Et pourquoi pas une liaison express Monaco-La Turbie ?

Pour l’heure, le projet semble en stand-by côté monégasque. Mais à La Turbie, on croit toujours
à une liaison express entre le village et Monaco.

Il fut un temps où le Chemin de fer à crémaillère reliait Monte-Carlo l’élu. Il faudra alors travailler avec Monaco, les collectivités locales,
à La Turbie. Ouverte en 1894, cette ligne ferma en 1932 suite à un l’État et l’Europe pour le financement d’un tel projet. Le hic ? « Avec

What about a Monaco-La Turbie express link?

For the moment, the project seems to be on standby on the Monégasque side but La Turbie still
believes in an express link between the village and Monaco.

There was a time when a rack railway linked Monte-Carlo to La Turbie. Opened in 1894, the line closed in 1932 following a serious accident...
but what if a new express link made it possible to connect the two? The Mayor of La Turbie, Jean-Jacques Raffaele, has been championing a
three-kilometre underground connection project since 2014. He has even contacted the PACA Region, which is responsible for transport with
the French Riviera Urban Community. “I decided to include in the Local Urban Plan (PLU) a place reserved to create a deterrent parking lot, the
starting point for a metro. A site has been identified to accommodate between 3,000 and 5,000 parking spaces, in the Esparaye district. Bringing
the PLU into compliance in 2025 is an essential step,” underlines the mayor. It will then be necessary to work with Monaco, local authorities, the
state and Europe to finance such a project. The catch? “With Monaco, the discussion has stopped for the moment,” but the mayor hopes that
it will resume as quickly as possible. “The project is complex but not impossible if tomorrow all stakeholders revealed a real political will. Soft
mobility is a real challenge. We are slowly polluting ourselves.” Jean-Jacques Raffaele entertains different hypotheses: “The link could reach La
Brasca, with a shorter section of one kilometre.” It remains to be seen whether this idea catches on. In 2019, Xavier Garcia, then First Secretary
of the Socialist Party on the Riviera, proposed the idea of an automatic light metro – of the OrlyVal type – between La Turbie and Monaco.
